Circa 1914, the largest commercial building in downtown Anderson was originally built as a hardware and dry goods store before the Depression and has been known over the years as the old Dairy Supply, the Hurst Hardware Store, and Apolonia Building. Wickey Motor (est 1929) used the second floor of the building to store cars for a period of time by way of the hand operated lift/elevator which is still functional today. For a period of time during the Depression years the upstairs was used as a rooming house. Several local residents remember the stairway located on the south end of the building as the “the way to our room”. Purchased by the Bell’s in 2003, the building has undergone restoration including: rebuilt parapet, repointed brick, refurbished windows, electrical, plumbing, roof, etc. Positioned at the corner of Main Street and FM 1774, this is a wonderful opportunity to own a functioning piece of Anderson, Texas history.
